interior design FAQs
We have collected the questions we are most often asked in our showrooms and during the first meetings with clients, architects and professionals.
Before choosing a kitchen, a material, a sofa or a new layout for the home, it is natural to wonder where to start, which professionals to involve, how much time is needed and how to avoid disconnected choices.
This page does not replace a personalised consultation, but it helps explain the Devincenti method and the value of a project built with care, coherence and attention to the way each home will be lived.
Before Starting a Project
01Where should you start when you want to furnish or rethink your home?
It always starts with listening. Before talking about products, materials or brands, we try to understand how the home will be lived: daily habits, practical needs, aesthetic wishes, critical aspects of the spaces and expectations for the final result.
A floor plan, a few photographs of the rooms or some reference images can be useful, but you do not need to arrive with fully defined ideas. Very often, our work begins precisely by helping the client bring order to possibilities, tastes and priorities.
02 Is it better to choose the furnishings first or define the project first?
Furnishings should not be chosen as isolated elements. A kitchen, a sofa, a table or a storage system truly work only when they are coherent with the space, the proportions of the rooms, the light and the way the home will be lived.
For this reason, we prefer to start from an overall vision: layout, materials, functions and furnishings are evaluated together. This helps avoid choices that may be beautiful on their own, but poorly suited to the final project.
03 Do I already need to have an architect, or can I contact Devincenti directly?
You can contact Devincenti directly even if you do not already have an architect. Depending on the type of intervention, we can help you understand which professionals should be involved and at what stage.
When an architect or designer is already involved, we work in dialogue with them, offering our showrooms, material library, selected brands, furnishing expertise and technical support related to the interiors.
04What is the difference between an architect, an interior designer and a furniture showroom?
An architect often works on the technical, layout, regulatory and structural aspects of a project. An interior designer focuses on the quality of the internal spaces: proportions, materials, furnishings, colours, lighting and atmosphere.
A showroom like Devincenti combines a design-oriented approach with strong knowledge of products, materials and execution. We do not simply propose furnishings; we help place them within a coherent project, built around the home and the people who live in it.
Consultancy and Showrooms
01 Do I need an appointment to visit the showroom?
We recommend booking an appointment, especially if you would like to discuss a real project. This allows us to dedicate the right amount of time to you, listen to your needs, review any floor plans and guide you through materials, furnishings and possible solutions.
A free visit can be useful for initial inspiration, but a project develops better when there is dedicated time for discussion.
02What should I bring to the first meeting?
You can bring a floor plan, some measurements, photographs of the rooms, inspiration images, material references or simply a list of needs.
You do not need to arrive with a project already clearly defined. In fact, the first meeting often helps clarify what really matters: which spaces need improvement, which functions should be integrated, which mistakes should be avoided and which aesthetic direction can best represent the home.
03 Can I visit just to clarify my ideas?
Yes. Many clients come to the showroom with ideas that are still unclear: they have seen images online, saved inspiration, visited different homes or showrooms, but do not know how to turn everything into a concrete choice.
Our role is to help read the possibilities with order, distinguishing what is attractive from what is truly suitable for the space, the budget, the lifestyle and the desired level of intervention.
04Do you work only on Lake Garda?
No. Devincenti works on projects in different areas, but our Padenghe sul Garda showroom makes us a natural point of reference for the Lower Garda area, Desenzano, Sirmione, Lonato, Moniga, Manerba, Salò, Peschiera and the surrounding areas.
Our historic location in Piubega connects us to the Mantua area and nearby provinces. Each project is evaluated according to its needs, complexity and the type of journey required.
Interior Design
01 What does an interior design project include?
An interior design project can include analysis of the spaces, concept definition, layout study, selection of materials and finishes, furniture design, lighting, colours, renders and coordination of the different choices.
Not every project requires the same level of depth. Some clients need work on the kitchen and living area, while others need to rethink an entire home. This is why every journey is built to measure.
02Is the project only about aesthetics?
No. Aesthetics are important, but they are not enough on their own. A well-designed interior must work in everyday life: correct circulation, adequate storage, materials suited to use, well-positioned lighting, balanced proportions and furnishings that are coherent with the real space.
A home can look beautiful in an image, but be uncomfortable to live in. Our work is to seek balance between beauty, function and durability over time.
03 Do you create renders or 3D simulations?
Yes, when they are useful to the design journey. Renders and 3D simulations help visualise proportions, materials, lighting, colours and combinations before execution.
They are not only useful for “seeing a beautiful image”, but for making more conscious decisions: understanding whether a volume is correct, whether a palette works and whether a solution truly dialogues with the rest of the home.
04Is it possible to design only one room?
Yes, it is possible to work on a single room: a kitchen, living area, bedroom, entrance, study or a space that needs to become more functional.
Even when the intervention is limited, we still try to read it within the overall context of the home. A room never lives completely on its own: materials, colours and proportions must dialogue with what surrounds it.
Interior Renovation
01 When does it make sense to involve Devincenti in a renovation?
It makes sense to involve us when the renovation is not only about technical works, but also about the way the home will be lived and furnished.
We can support the study of the spaces, the choice of materials, furniture design, kitchen definition, the reading of proportions and the coordination of decisions related to the interiors. The earlier the discussion begins, the easier it is to avoid costly changes or incoherent choices.
02 Do you also follow complete renovations?
We follow the design and coordination aspects related to the interiors, working in dialogue with technicians, craftsmen and professionals involved in the project.
Our role is to maintain coherence between spaces, materials, furnishings, lighting and the final result. In a renovation, many technical decisions have direct consequences for the furnishings: sockets, lighting points, systems, circulation, heights, openings and technical preparations.
03 How much does an interior renovation cost?
The cost depends on many factors: the size of the home, the condition of the spaces, the level of intervention, the materials selected, furnishings, kitchen, lighting and the complexity of coordination.
For this reason, it does not make sense to give a standard price without seeing the space and understanding the needs. The first goal is to understand what type of intervention is truly required, distinguishing what is necessary, what would improve the project and what can be chosen in a later phase.
04How do you avoid a renovation becoming a series of disconnected choices?
A clear design direction is needed. Flooring, wall coverings, kitchen, lighting, furnishings and colours should not be chosen separately, because every decision influences the overall perception of the home.
The Devincenti method starts from an overall vision: first the identity of the project is defined, then coherent materials and solutions are selected. This is what allows a home not to look simply renovated, but truly designed.
Kitchens and Living Areas
01When should the kitchen be designed during a renovation?
The kitchen should be designed very early, especially if work is planned on systems, flooring, false ceilings or lighting.
The position of water connections, drains, sockets, lighting points, hoods, appliances and circulation depends on the kitchen project. Deciding too late can limit the possibilities or lead to unnecessary changes.
02 What makes a kitchen truly well designed?
A well-designed kitchen is not only beautiful. It must be comfortable to use, proportionate to the space, coherent with the living area and suited to the habits of those who live it.
Before choosing finishes and colours, it is important to understand how people cook, how many people use the kitchen, where food is prepared, where work happens, where storage is needed, how light enters and how the kitchen will relate to the dining and living areas.
03 Should the kitchen and living area be designed together?
When the kitchen and living area are close or connected, yes. Materials, volumes, colours and lighting must dialogue, even when the rooms maintain different functions.
A very visible kitchen can become part of the architecture of the home; a more discreet kitchen can instead leave more space to the living area and the view. There is no single correct solution for everyone: it depends on the space, the light and the way the home is lived.
04Is it better to choose a scenic kitchen or a more discreet kitchen?
It depends on the project. In some homes, the kitchen can become the protagonist, especially when the space allows it and when the client experiences it as a central room.
In other contexts, such as panoramic homes or very open living areas, it may be more appropriate to choose a kitchen that integrates gently, allowing the light, the view or other elements of the home to breathe. The choice is not between “beautiful” and “simple”, but between what is coherent and what is not.
Materials and Finishes
01 Why choose materials in person and not only from a catalogue?
Because materials and finishes change significantly depending on light, surface, texture and combinations.
A colour seen on a screen can be different from the real sample. Wood, stone, fabric or ceramic surfaces need to be seen, touched and compared with the other elements of the project. Choosing materials in person reduces mistakes and second thoughts.
02What is a material library for?
A material library is a working space, not just an archive of samples. It allows flooring, surfaces, wood essences, fabrics, colours, metals and finishes to be compared, building combinations that are coherent with the project.
Within the Devincenti method, the material library helps the client transform tastes and intuitions into concrete choices, evaluated together with the team and placed within an overall vision of the home.
03 How do you understand whether two materials work well together?
It is not enough for two materials to be beautiful individually. Their tone, texture, reflection, scale, function and relationship with natural light must all be considered.
A correct combination does not necessarily have to be neutral or “safe”, but it must be coherent. Sometimes contrast is needed, other times continuity. The difference lies in the ability to read the project as a whole.
Bespoke Furnishings and Brand Selection
01Does Devincenti create only bespoke furnishings?
No. A project can integrate bespoke furnishings, modular systems, kitchens, upholstered furniture, lighting, accessories and products from selected brands.
The difference is not only in the product, but in the way it is chosen and placed. A branded furnishing can be perfect or completely wrong depending on the context. Our work is to understand what the home truly needs.
02 Why choose a showroom instead of buying individual furnishings online?
Buying a single piece of furniture online can work for simple needs, but it becomes more difficult when the goal is to create a coherent environment.
A showroom allows you to evaluate proportions, materials, comfort, finishes, combinations and real quality. Above all, it allows every choice to be placed within a project: not only “I like it”, but “does it really work in my home?”.
03 Can I include furnishings or pieces I already own in the project?
Yes, when they have emotional, aesthetic or functional value. Renewing a home does not always mean replacing everything.
Some elements can be kept, reinterpreted or placed in dialogue with new materials and new furnishings. A more personal home often comes precisely from the balance between what remains and what changes.
Special Homes, Second Homes and Lake Views
01 How do you design a lake-view or panoramic home?
A home with a view should not be filled; it should be listened to. Light, landscape, openings and perspectives become part of the project.
Furnishings must accompany the view without interrupting it, materials must dialogue with the light and colours must create balance between interior and exterior. In these cases, measure is fundamental: less showroom effect, more coherence with the place.
02 How do you furnish a second home?
A second home should be welcoming, practical and resistant, but not impersonal. It often needs to work for concentrated periods of use, guests, moments of relaxation and simpler management of the spaces.
The project must therefore find a balance between atmosphere, comfort, maintenance and durability. Materials, storage, beds, kitchen and living area should be chosen with real use in mind, not only first impressions.
03 Can a historic home be renovated without losing its identity?
Yes, but it requires care. A historic home should not be treated as an empty container: proportions, existing materials, openings, ceilings, floors and architectural details must be read before intervening.
The project can make it more contemporary and functional without erasing its identity. It is a balance between memory and contemporary living.
Timing, Budget and Process
01How long does an interior design project take?
It depends on the complexity. A single room may require shorter times, while a complete home or renovation involves several phases: listening, survey, concept, material selection, quotations, orders, deliveries and installations.
The most important thing is not to compress the initial phase too much. Decisions made at the beginning influence the entire journey, especially when systems, kitchens, bespoke furnishings and supplies are involved.
02Is it possible to respect a budget without giving up quality?
Yes, but the budget should be clarified early. It does not mean always choosing the least expensive product, but understanding where it makes sense to invest and where it is possible to simplify.
In a home, some choices have a strong and lasting impact: kitchen, lighting, flooring, storage and main materials. A well-guided project helps distribute the budget with greater awareness.
03How can you avoid making mistakes with important purchases?
Mistakes are avoided by starting from the project, not from the urgency to buy. A sofa, kitchen, table or wardrobe may seem right in the showroom, but turn out to be wrong in terms of proportions, function or style once placed in the real space.
For this reason, we always evaluate measurements, circulation, materials, light, relationship with other furnishings and daily use. The purchase then becomes a consequence of the project, not an isolated choice.
After the Project
01Does Devincenti also follow delivery and installation?
Yes. The delivery and installation phase is an important part of the final result. Quality furnishings must be installed correctly, with attention to the spaces, finishes and details.
For this reason, the journey does not end with the choice of products: we also follow the operational phases related to the furnishings, so that the project maintains coherence through to completion.
02What happens after installation?
After installation, we remain a point of reference for any adjustments, checks, assistance and needs related to the furnishings supplied.
A home is truly understood over time, when it begins to be lived. This is why after-sales service is not a secondary detail, but part of the relationship of trust with the client.
Professionals and Collaborations
01Do you collaborate with architects and interior designers?
Yes. We collaborate with architects, interior designers and professionals looking for a partner for materials, furnishings, brands, showrooms, technical consultancy and operational support.
Our role can change depending on the project: we can be a partner in material selection, furnishing proposals, supply management or in the dialogue with the final client.
02Can an architect accompany the client to the showroom?
Yes. Devincenti showrooms are also designed as working spaces for professionals and clients. Architects can accompany their clients in the selection of materials, furnishings, finishes and solutions, finding concrete and competent support from our team.

The design is not just form: it's a story.
Every month, a detail to discover.
