Casa COLI

Furnishing the Modern Villa: Casa COLI

Casa COLI is a newly built villa designed around the needs of a family and the way its spaces would actually be lived.

The architectural project is by Rossella Barozzi and is based on a clear principle: rather than designing the outer shell first and adapting the interiors afterwards, the process began with functions, proportions and the relationships between spaces, allowing the form of the house to develop from within.

Devincenti was involved in defining the furnishings, translating this vision into a complete Modulnova kitchen, a Molteni&C living area and a lighting project featuring Flos.

The result is a contemporary, tactile and welcoming villa where furnishings and architecture speak the same language.

A Villa Designed from the Inside Out

Casa COLI was born from a less conventional design approach: the interior spaces were conceived together with the furnishings and the family’s needs before the external envelope was fully defined.

The generous size of the site gave architect Rossella Barozzi greater freedom to work with proportions, circulation and the relationships between the different spaces.

The heart of the villa is therefore its most private side, facing the garden, portico and swimming pool. The main spaces — living area, kitchen and bedrooms — open onto this part of the property through large glazed surfaces.

Modernity and the Memory of Lombard Architecture

The geometry of Casa COLI is contemporary, regular and essential, yet the project maintains a strong connection with its local architectural heritage.

The brick lattice screens reinterpret a typical element of traditional Lombard farmhouses through a contemporary language. Positioned on the east and west façades, they serve not only an aesthetic purpose: they filter the light and create changing patterns of light and shadow throughout the day.

Tradition is therefore not replicated, but reinterpreted. A historic architectural detail becomes part of a contemporary design and contributes to the perceptual quality of the interiors.

A Staircase Conceived as a Sculpture

Facing the entrance, the staircase deliberately interrupts the geometric rigour of the house.

The regularity of the volumes is contrasted by an organic, sculptural form, shaped through soft curves, custom-built balustrades and a tactile finish consistent with the rest of the interiors.

The staircase is raised on a wooden platform, becoming a true standalone element within the space: not simply a connection between two floors, but an architectural presence in its own right.

Modern Villa Furnishing: the Devincenti Approach in Casa COLI

For the furnishing of the modern Casa COLI villa, the starting point was not the catalogue, but the architect’s project.

Materials, proportions, colours and furnishings had to continue the same design language already established by the architecture. Devincenti therefore worked alongside Rossella Barozzi to transform into reality solutions conceived from the very first stages of the  design process.

Our role was to interpret an already very precise vision and identify products, materials and solutions capable of respecting it through to final completion.

The Modulnova Kitchen as Part of the Architecture

In Casa COLI, the kitchen is not treated as a volume added after the architecture was completed.

Modulnova becomes part of the architecture through a composition designed together with the spaces: full-height cabinetry, tactile surfaces and the strong presence of walnut create continuity with the rest of the villa.

The kitchen cabinetry also integrates a concealed door leading to the pantry, transforming what would normally be a wall into an integral part of the furnishing system.

The kitchen does not simply fill the space: it helps shape it.

Walnut as a Recurring Theme Throughout the House

One of the materials that most strongly defines Casa COLI is walnut.

Walnut appears in the full-height kitchen cabinetry, the entrance flooring and the wall coverings along the corridor. Repeating the same material creates continuity between different functions and softens the presence of the large neutral volumes.

The aim is not to use the same material to make everything uniform, but to create a recognisable rhythm that accompanies the journey through the house.

Materiality, Light and Warm Tones

The modern character of Casa COLI is not expressed through cold surfaces or overly austere interiors.

The palette is built around natural materials, warm neutral tones and deliberately tactile surfaces. Even the walls move away from traditional paint in favour of a hand-applied lime finish, creating depth and controlled imperfections.

It is precisely the contrast between contemporary geometries and softer materials that makes the villa feel welcoming without losing its architectural character.

The Molteni&C Living Area: Comfort Within a Large Open Space

The living area follows the same principle of balance.

Molteni&C furnishings introduce comfort and proportion within a generous space without making it feel visually heavy.

The living area remains in dialogue with the kitchen and dining space, while maintaining its own identity through the furniture composition and the presence of the large fireplace element.

The goal was not to divide the spaces, but to create different functions within one continuous environment.

The Fireplace as a Connecting Element

Between the living area and the kitchen, the project introduces a significant fireplace element that separates the spaces without closing them off.

The volume integrates storage, technical systems and a double-sided fireplace visible from both the kitchen and the living area. This solution defines two different functions without the need for walls or doors.

Here too, the finishes were carefully selected to connect with the staircase base and the kitchen cabinetry, maintaining continuity between architecture and furnishings.

Flos Lighting as Part of the Atmosphere

The lighting follows the same design logic.

Flos lighting solutions are introduced not as independent decorative elements, but as tools that enhance materials, volumes and functions.

Artificial lighting complements the natural light, already a key feature of the architecture through the large glazed surfaces and the patterns of light and shadow created by the brick screens, helping to transform the perception of the interiors throughout the day.

From Concept to Completion

Casa COLI also reveals a less visible aspect of the project: the precision required to transform an idea into a fully realised space.

Many details were developed down to the centimetre. Different materials were refined to achieve coherent tones, furnishings and architecture were coordinated from the earliest stages, and numerous solutions required continuous dialogue between design, supply and execution.

It is precisely in this transition that Devincenti plays one of its most important roles: supporting the project until what was originally imagined on paper becomes a real, lived space.
